Your AI-generated swimwear design looks great. But can it actually be made?

AI is making it easier for founders to turn ideas into visuals, especially if you don’t have a technical fashion design background.


It’s a useful starting point. But from a manufacturer’s perspective, a realistic-looking image isn’t always a production-ready design.

AI can create details that look convincing visually but don’t work technically, such as unclear panel joins, unrealistic proportions, difficult hardware attachments, or cutouts that are too small to construct.


In this example, the AI-generated design shows a small cutout with a ring and removable charms attached at the center front. When our Product Design team tested the construction, the cutout and surrounding panel needed enough space for the binding, joining, and hardware attachment.

This means a design that looks possible in an AI image may need adjustments to work in real construction.

The Real Challenge? Communication.

When your manufacturer only receives an AI-generated image, some important details can be open to interpretation.


How should it fit? Where should the seams sit? How is the hardware attached? What kind of coverage do you want?


With different teams involved in development, unclear direction can lead to more questions, revisions, time, and cost.

Pinterest, other brands, or existing products showing similar fits, shapes, textures, or details. One image might show your ideal shape, while another explains the construction or hardware you want.

In this example, the AI-generated handover includes the overall silhouette alongside details such as measurements, fit, padding, straps, fabric, and construction references. This gives our Product Design team more context when translating the idea into a physical sample.
